Torsos have always been very popular and common in the world of sculpturing, but you have probably never seen them as unusual as this. The artist, Federico Uribe, has created these female toros using different materials like coins, bullets, safety pins, color pencils, locks, clothes pins, pencil erasers and others.
These simple materials give the torsos an unique and somewhat interesting look because of the different patterns. There are plenty of objects to choose from when making sculptures. These artists used polystyrene to make sculptures that look like “Transformers”.
This year, EIZO (medical imaging and radiograph service) is giving out unique x-ray pin-up calendars to their clients (many of which are doctors). The goal of the project is to break free of taboo, i.e. showing the traditional, sexy pin-up in all its glory and details.
The resort is placed near Princess Juliana International Airport that is considered the busiest airport in the Caribbean Sea. The airport’s runway is so short that the aircrafts must touch down at the very beginning of the runway, and since the the Maho beach is right by, the visitors can almost feel that they can touch the wheels if they jump.
On the gallery show “Rio” in NYC airplanes had a completely different role than take off and land; they were represented like wrestling earthworms.
Passing by these amazing 3D paintings will make you almost believe that there are real people standing by the wall. The paintings are made in such a way that you would probably try to touch the girl that’s leaning on the wall or maybe the old lady that’s resting, because they seem so realistic. The most surprising thing is that the artist is only using his bare hands and painting to make such tremendous art happen.
This week in our ‘Photos of the Week’ collection I bring you ‘Action Photography’. The world is a busy place and Ferris Bueller once said “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it”. Well I think that with this collection the photographers have managed to catch a snapshot of life in motion. Hope you like the selection.
The photos you are about to see are part of the “The Monster Engine Project“, created by Dave DeVries. It includes a book, a demonstration, lecture and a gallery exhibition.
The Monster Engine is based on the idea of creating realistic paintings from children’s drawings. It all turned out to be a great success and an innovative concept. Sometimes artists just happen to get to one point where their imagination stops. But not children.
They are an endless “resource” for creations and we are going to prove that to you with this post. 22 images presenting the drawing made by children, all around 6 years old and then their representations made by Dave DeVries.
This is a compilation of old advertisements, i hope they will give you good inspiration to try to make one by yourself. Not all are actually ads, but they are added to make your imagination do a great stuff. You should enjoy reading this article, as I did when I was writing.

A brief history
whilst ballpoint pens had existed in the past - none had proved very popular due to constant problems with clogging, leakage and ink distribution - the bíró's, was the first pen that significantly overcame these problems.
after relocating to argentina in 1940 the bírós licensed their design to a number of makers in the US and britain but it was almost ten years later when the design was mastered and introduced to the rest of the world. marcel bich a french pen manufacturer who had bought the ballpoint pen patent from lászló bíró - ironed out the remaining design problems (mainly ink distribution) and began huge, low cost mass prodctions of the 'bic crystal'.
it's not surprising to hear that in 2005 bic sold its one hundred billionth pen, when you consider just how many of their pens you might have owned, borrowed or even stolen.

Designboom competition entries
in some instances the ballpoint pen has been used for much more than the initial scribbling-down of an idea. the 'bic pen' has seen numerous incarnations in recent years - in more than one of designboom's competitions, participants have decided to transform the iconic writer.
one of the ex-equo winners of the macef award 2008 - dining in 2015, was 'din-ink' by andrea cingoli, paolo emilio bellisario, cristian cellini and francesca fontana from italy. the design sees pen-lids integrated with cutlery allowing the user to transform their writing tools into a knife, fork and spoon. finally there is a good excuse for when you're caught gnawing on the end of your pen!
another designboom competition entry which used the 'bic pen' was giffin termeers 'dasiy vase'. developed for the macef award 2004 - H2O_on the table, the american design duo blow-mold the pens by hand. as the plastic becomes flexible its stretches allowing the vase to sit naturally. since its initial competition success the 'daisy vase' has been shown at designboom marts, and can also be purchased online from the designboom shop.

It is February 14, and you know what we are talking about. Forget functionality, forget aesthetics, remember the season!
A tad provacative in design, but definitely looks comfortable!
Having a unique design is a must to get your visitor’s attention. Vector characters can establish a memorable image of your site in the reader’s mind which stands through the toughest of times.. Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop are a few of the great tools used for creating such a sketchy or hand-drawn feel. As i said, these character illustrations require a lot of skills, time, patience and apart from that, it also requires great understanding of human anatomy. Enormous amount of time goes into drawing the details like hair, face, body posture and facial expressions to to bring the characters to life. One must also look into the details of lighting, shadows and illumination.
In this article, I have showcased some of the best and most inspiring character illustrations. Click on the images to visit the source and learn more about them.
Following up those artist-created posters for Inglourious Basterds, here's another from Ibraheem Youssef that gives a wink to the film's crucial Chun-Li-style "3" moment.
A missing brick here and chipped stone there show the normal marks of wear and tear on the structures and streets of a city, but filling them in with multi-colored LEGO bricks makes them stand out in sharp relief with their surroundings – especially in a place like Berlin.
It’s pretty amazing how piles of colorful plastic bricks can build wonders when they are attached together. Lego was first introduced by Lego Group in 1949 and have been everyone’s favorite ever since.
What we are going to show you today are some Lego models you don’t get to see often, not available for purchase in the neighborhood stores for sure. They are complex, massive and definitely jaw-dropping. If you are a Lego fan, this is something you would not want to miss.
Here’s a collection of 35 incredible Lego Mega Construction, large in scale but built to its finest details. Full list after jump.
Kennedy Space Center
Occupying 1,506 square feet and made up of 750,000 lego bricks. This massive construction took more than 2,500 hours to build.
These nature-inspired installations are part of the project called “Art of the Sky” led by environmental artist and photographer Daniel Dancer. The art creations are only making sense when seen from the sky, and they are simply made by using people and latex paint.
Sometimes he is using up to 4000 people for his works, and each one of them knows where to stand on their knees and hands with their backs exposed so that the colored t-shirts can show best. Dancer only takes one shot when he is up in the air, because first he wants it to be spontaneous, and second rehearsals doesn’t make any sense to him.
He became fascinated by sky art while traveling across South Africa and discovering the “Nazca Lines” of Peru.
Some similar sky art has been done in Japan as well by rice farmers that use their fields to express their work of art.
Each dynamic scene is stopped in time… that’s how one can perceive Holger Pooten‘s photos. The photographer has worked with clients such as Adidas, Intel, Nike, Panasonic, Vogue, Virgin, and more.
What do you think about the objects around you in daily life? Nothing special and even boring, right? But what if they are endowed with expression, limbs or actions as human being? It certainly will be another story! Advertisers have realized it well and thus have created numerous clever ads featuring personified common objects.

Todays main hero is talanted graphic artist from Spain Elena Dudina. Her beautiful artworks are great combination of magic fantasy and dark emotions. Just playing with illumination, colors, contrast she brings us something special. But the main thing is an idea. As she said “It’s like a puzzle. It’s a long process to make it perfect.” She creates photomanipulations for almost 2 years and already have such stunning results. Elena is definetly talanted artist. Enjoy!
We all know that a tree doesn’t always have green leaves, water is not blue and clouds are certainly not always white and puffy. As designers, we need to know to look beyond the obvious when looking at things.
Cloud formations such as mammatus or lenticular among others, are perfect examples of how intricate and different nature can be. There are even so called ‘ufo clouds’, which truly resemble the shape of a UFO.
In this post, we take a look at some amazing photographs of the weirdest cloud formations that you’ll ever see, that are destined to inspire your design work and surely blow your mind.

Photorealism emerged from the 1960’s and 1970’s as a movement that countered both minimalism and abstract expressionism. In a photorealist painting, the artist paints from a photograph with a level of detail so fine that they can easily be mistaken for photographs. While the movement waned in the 1980’s it’s coming back in a big way. In 2009, the ArtPrize award was awarded to Ran Ortner’s immense canvas, Open Water No. 24, beating out 9 other finalists (Ortner won after receiving a majority of the 37,264 registered votes cast). His work was the only painting out of the final 10 candidates. (You can read about that here.) With artists’ like Dan Witz (above) using the techniques in a more contemporary setting, the movement is not only coming back, but coming back in a big way.
Here are 10 photorealistic painters (and 21 photorealistic paintings) that are at the height of their game. Remember, they are all oil paintings.

Ah yes, the olden days, when girls were girls and men were men. It was a different time then, a time of innocence. A time when the simply gesture of bending over didn’t solicit laughs from an audience of onlookers, when the word “wang” was always promptly followed by “chung,” and when it was never implied that Superman was some sort of deviant.
Of course, looking back on media from these times reveals that there really not all that innocent. The following image gallery shows several comic book covers that, in hindsight, are unintentionally hilarious.
