The “Little People Project” Gallery by Slinkachu

Did you read the story about Lilliput? No? Then Slinkachu will guide you to the world of his tiny people. Slinkachu started his “Little People Project”. It involves the remodeling and painting of miniature model train set characters. He places and leaves the tiny people on the street and takes photos. Up to now, Slinkachu has held several exhibitions with the hope of encouraging city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings and reflecting the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city. I think in his Lillput, there may be hundreds of inhabitants. Here are some cute pictures about their lives, have fun.

Unusual Fonts

fonts

If you want to create your own font sometimes it’s no need to use graphic programms. Just use various objects and try to form letters. These unusual fonts were created by Vladimir Koncar – artist from Zagreb, Croatia.

Reinventing the bic pen

when lászló bíró saw a ball rolling through a puddle on the street and leaving a trail of water behind it, he conceived an idea that would go on to change everyday life forever. based on what he had seen, the hungarian journalist along with his brother georg, began to work on the first commercially successful ballpoint pen.

A brief history

bíró had become frustrated by the time spent filling-up fountain pens and waiting for the ink to dry. he had seaen that the ink used to print newspapers dried much quicker and so decided to create a pen using the same type of ink. in 1938 the bíró brothers patented a design which featured a tiny ball in its tip, which turned freely in a socket. as the ball moved along the paper it rotated, picking up ink from the cartridge and leaving it on the paper.

whilst ballpoint pens had existed in the past - none had proved very popular due to constant problems with clogging, leakage and ink distribution - the bíró's, was the first pen that significantly overcame these problems.

after relocating to argentina in 1940 the bírós licensed their design to a number of makers in the US and britain but it was almost ten years later when the design was mastered and introduced to the rest of the world. marcel bich a french pen manufacturer who had bought the ballpoint pen patent from lászló bíró - ironed out the remaining design problems (mainly ink distribution) and began huge, low cost mass prodctions of the 'bic crystal'.

it's not surprising to hear that in 2005 bic sold its one hundred billionth pen, when you consider just how many of their pens you might have owned, borrowed or even stolen.

Designboom competition entries

at the same time as being a icon of democracy - almost anyone can afford to buy one - the ballpoint pen is also one of the first products of the throw-away culture in which we now live.

in some instances the ballpoint pen has been used for much more than the initial scribbling-down of an idea. the 'bic pen' has seen numerous incarnations in recent years - in more than one of designboom's competitions, participants have decided to transform the iconic writer.

one of the ex-equo winners of the macef award 2008 - dining in 2015, was 'din-ink' by andrea cingoli, paolo emilio bellisario, cristian cellini and francesca fontana from italy. the design sees pen-lids integrated with cutlery allowing the user to transform their writing tools into a knife, fork and spoon. finally there is a good excuse for when you're caught gnawing on the end of your pen!

another designboom competition entry which used the 'bic pen' was giffin termeers 'dasiy vase'. developed for the macef award 2004 - H2O_on the table, the american design duo blow-mold the pens by hand. as the plastic becomes flexible its stretches allowing the vase to sit naturally. since its initial competition success the 'daisy vase' has been shown at designboom marts, and can also be purchased online from the designboom shop.

bic pens have found their way into the work of several other designers and would-be inventors. from maneuverable lighting and chandeliers to candy and weaponry - more 'bic pen' projects are featured here...

40 Most inspiring vector character illustrations

In my previous article, we saw some of the most awesome Illustrator tutorials ever made on the web. If you noticed, there were some really vector portraits as well. These vector portraits are nothing but the vector illustration of a reference photograph created using Illustrator, Inkscape or similar vector graphics tools. What makes them so amazing is the attention to detail given to each stroke in the illustration. This type of vector art requires tonnes of patience and hours of careful work.

Having a unique design is a must to get your visitor’s attention. Vector characters can establish a memorable image of your site in the reader’s mind which stands through the toughest of times.. Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop are a few of the great tools used for creating such a sketchy or hand-drawn feel. As i said, these character illustrations require a lot of skills, time, patience and apart from that, it also requires great understanding of human anatomy. Enormous amount of time goes into drawing the details like hair, face, body posture and facial expressions to to bring the characters to life. One must also look into the details of lighting, shadows and illumination.

Patchwork Orange: Art of Fixing Buildings with LEGO Blocks

A missing brick here and chipped stone there show the normal marks of wear and tear on the structures and streets of a city, but filling them in with multi-colored LEGO bricks makes them stand out in sharp relief with their surroundings – especially in a place like Berlin.

Atmosferic

This is a photo sequence of 42 stacked shots, caught in Olympic Stadium, Athens during a severe thunderstorm. It only took me aproximatelly 30 minutes to capture 51 lightnings.
Nine shots were destroyed because of the excess brightness. See also the waterdrops from the drain pipe. They seem 'still' as they instlantly illuminated from the lightnings.
The answer to the crucial question: No... The big one didn`t hit me on the head! It stroke a few hundred feet in front of me..
